The Faces Behind Fader Wetsuits

At Fader, we don’t just create wetsuits—we innovate, test, and fine-tune every detail to enhance your time in the water. But who’s behind it all? Meet the team bringing science, design, and photography together to redefine ocean gear.
Rob Carraro – Founder & Senior Research Officer
How did you get into shark research?
I’ve been fascinated by marine life for as long as I can remember. My honours research on Wobbegongs sparked a deep dive into shark vision, which eventually led to the development of Sharkview technology.
What’s the wildest experience you’ve had with sharks?
Tagging Grey Nurses underwater with NSW Fisheries was intense, but after four years of aerial surveys, I’ve learned sharks are a lot more predictable than you’d think!
How did Fader’s Sharkview concept come to life?
After years of observing how sharks see, I knew we could develop wetsuits and surfboards that actually work with their vision to reduce encounters. A decade of testing later, here we are!
Gemma Wagstaff – Head Designer & Production Coordinator
What inspired you to design wetsuits?
I come from a high-performance swimwear background, so I wanted to bring that same level of precision and function to wetsuits—especially for women.
What makes Fader wetsuits unique?
They’re designed for movement and confidence. I focus on seam lines that follow muscle groups, making them flexible and flattering. A wetsuit should perform but also make you feel amazing!
What’s your go-to surf spot?
Anywhere with fun, clean longboard waves! But my heart is always with my home breaks in New Zealand.
Kendall – Lead Photographer
How did you become an underwater photographer?
Five years ago, I was snorkeling at my local beach and had a life-changing moment—I saw my first tiger shark. That encounter sparked my passion for marine conservation and photography.
Most unforgettable shoot?
Any time I get to capture sharks in their natural habitat. But working with Fader for the past five years—documenting dive days and bringing our wetsuits to life—has been epic.
Dream dive location?
Anywhere remote with crystal-clear water and incredible marine life… but Fuvahmulah, Maldives, will always have my heart.
