SURF WETSUITS

Our next generation of wetsuits will be made of limestone neoprene for environmental and functional reasons. Basically its so superior to other neoprene in every way due to the micro cell structure. Add to this our inside lining will be made of recycled PET bottles and the outside nylon for durability. Not being petroleum based there are less harmful processes in the manufacturing and our glues and dyes will be best choices available.

Environmentally the limestone process far less damaging as petroleum based methods and even the internal layer will be made from recycled materials. In addition to all these factors our westuits have a pattern and colour (Fully Patented) that are almost impossible to see from 5 m and will dramatically reduce the chance of sharks approaching. Why would you buy another big brand black wetsuit? No mater who or how many surfers they sponsor.

Oil based or Limestone Neoprene

The bubbles created in the baking process for limestone are smaller more densely packed and up to 95% stay intact compared the normal petroleum method where their much bigger, loser and between 30-40% are broken. The final product is lighter, warmer, more flexible with better durability and almost impermeable as water can only penetrate the open bubbles. Less water soaked up means it dies quicker and cant get heavy like normal neoprene. The bubbles are formed with nitrogen gas rather which has better insulation properties than air so a 2 mm limestone is about as warm as a normal 3 mm. The close packed micro structure helps with any damage as a new surface of intact cells are exposed. Environmentally the process is much less harmful and as the wetsuit will last 2 to 3 times longer the overall impact is far less.

The biggest advantage is stretch, flexibility and importantly return. Limestone can stretch many times it length in any direction without damaging any cells. No cell damage means it will return to shape far better than oil based neoprene can. Other neoprene's may seem to or promote a 4 way stretch where as few actually do. The raw materiel may but once an internal and external l lining is added this stretch disappears. Our wetsuits have white nylon outer and an inner made from recycled PET bottles that have the same flexibility as the limestone so they cant restrict the base.

Design

Ours FADER wetsuits fit unlike any others as the designs are based on racing swimwear with large rear shoulder panels for unrestricted paddling. Created  by Gemma Cornish of GemmaLee Suit  the long contoured sections will give shape and form that other suits simply cant. Using data from our online SurfGirl 2020 survey  on Our Concept page the final result has better shape, better function, better flexibility and although its not the main purpose just better style than anything else available.

Temperature Range

Our aim for the colour and thickness was to have the best combination for water temperature and conditions. So Blue in 2 mm or more tropical water, Grey 3/2 mm for mid range and Green in 4/3 for cooler waters. Depending on body size and tolerance for cold the 2 mm is for 18-26 C Grey 14-22 C and Green below 14 C. For your area if you have specific needs for a colour or thickness variation get in touch and we will try to accommodate. If there is enough demand we can even tune the colours for unusual areas. for more detailed up to date world wide temperature information see the Seatemperature website or for the Australian BOM has each state.

Manufacturing

Our wetsuits are made to the highest standards using lowest impact glues and inks and not where workers well-being and safety does not exist. Quality and durability are the dominant factor in our manufacturing and selection of zips trims and stitching. We want your FADER suit to last and give years of service not be thrown any after 1 season or when stitching rips or its get lose or .

 Looking after your FADER

FADER suits are made from the finest limestone-based neoprene, Yamamoto, Shieco or TB.  This type of neoprenene

is warmer, lighter and more durable. Our suits are digitally printed with our patented contrast gradient pattern which means our suits need a little more attention when caring for them.

To take care of our suits after salt water use:

  • Rinse in cool fresh water and hang inside out to dry in shade out of direct sunlight

  • Do not leave your suit in full sun. It will not only hurt the touch but also drain colours from it.

  • Do not dry clean, tumble dry, machine wash, iron or use bleach or chemicals on our suits

  • Avoid abrasive surfaces such as rocks and finger nails

  • Fold the arms across the chest and roll toward the legs for packing or storing.

  1. FADER Back Zip Womens Steamer

Female torso to limb length ratios have more variations than in men so its harder to get a 1 piece Steamer to fit well. Some body shapes just don't suit a steamer.  45% of girls according to our SurfGirl 2020 survey  said they don't fit the standard industry sizing.  For those we will have other styles that well be available next year. As they have designed for the female form based on racing swimwear and compression patterns the FADER Back Zip Streamer it will fit a bigger range of girls shapes. We believe that we can fit 75-80%. This is  due the flexibility of the base limestone and uniqueness of the designed shape and body panels. Later we will include an Extra Long Steamer for taller girls and full colour of every thickness.

2. Children's Steamers

We always planned to do children's wetsuits later but following some very positive engagement and demand of parents we are going to have FADER camouflaged suit wetsuit range in kids sizes from the start. Although they have not been independently tested yet our 4 years of work has shown that the chances of shark approaching are greatly reduced in our camouflage compared to a black wetsuit.

As with the adults they will be made using the more environmentally friendly Limestone Neoprene that is warmer, has better stretch and is more durable than oil based Neoprene.

There's only 1 drawback using high quality limestone neoprene instead cheaper versions they wont be at the cheap level of some brands that last 1 year then get thrown away. We are still working on reducing costs and most parents are happy buy the best for their kids but out growing a high quality wetsuit before getting full use out of it is a problem.

 Open Cell Neoprene

Care is needed when donning open cell suits. They have no internal layer so the sticky neoprene is next to the skin. It provides a great seal and is best for thermal retention but can be damaged. If the following steps are taken its easy and no risk.

1 Remove all jewellery. Ear rings, eyebrow, lip, fingers toes and anywhere else, Yes those ones too. Even long fingernails or toenails can damage the internal layer.

2 You must use lucubration. Our preferred is hair conditioner mixed with water. We use a bulk hair dressers type that is non allergenic and gentle on the skin. Depending on how concentrated it is mixed 1 to 10 or water or even 1 to 20 can be ok. A squeeze bottle or pump action is useful but spray bottles can leave un wet areas.

3 Pour a cup or 2 into the suit while holding the legs or arm closed. Slosh it around to ensure all internal surfaces are covered.

4 Lube yourself wet all exposed skin with the lube mix. Or even better get someone else too.

5 Start with 1 leg at a time don't force it, if there is enough lube it will just slide straight on. Then the other leg. Put on completely and then lube chest and back external layer.

6 Repeat for jacket again don't force, if a section is tight pour in some more mix.

After a couple of times it will be automatic, quicker and easier than a tight closed cell suit.

Post dive rinse in fresh water turn inside out to preserve colours and dry in shaded area.
